Experience Korean Festivals in Autumn 2019 (November)

Autumn is one of the best times to visit Korea. Not only is the cool weather almost perfect, but pleasant things such as abundant food and maple begin to create a festive mood. To mark the beginning of autumn, many festivals are celebrated throughout Korea, offering many people the opportunity to enjoy nice weather and outdoor activities. So, for those who have the pleasure of traveling to Korea in the autumn, here’s a summary of upcoming festivals that should not be missed!

Seoul Lantern Festival

Location: Cheonggye Plaza to Supyogyo Bridge

Date: 1st-17th November

The annual Seoul Lantern Festival, one of the representative festivals in Seoul, is held from the first Friday of November to the third Sunday of November. The festival, which has been around for 10 years since 2009, allows about 3 million visitors each year to see bright-colored lanterns along the 1.3-kilometer Cheonggyecheon Stream along with various attractions stretching from Cheonggye Plaza and Supo Bridge.

Mindungsan Eulalia Festival

Location: Mindungsan Mountain area, Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do

Date: 27th September-10th November

On a cool autumn day, a good hike to Mindungsan Mountain peak allows you to see a plethora of eulalia along the way. The Mindungsan Eulalia Festival is held around the mountain. Events such as weekend hiking, talent competition, Arirang singing contest, Woongdam concert, Mindungsan gate ball competition, and Undam photo exhibition will be held during the festival. It will also include hands-on programs include local food programs, postcards and mountain horseback riding.

Cheongsong Apple Festival

Location: Area of Yeongjeoncheon Stream in Cheongsong-eup

Dates: 30th October-3rd November 2019

The Cheongsong Apple Festival is held every October and November to promote the excellence of apples grown in the region. Cheongsong apples, produced in pristine areas above 250 meters above sea level, are high in sugar, succulent and hard because they are grown in a perfect condition to produce delicious tasting apples. It goes to show Cheongsong as a region offering good weather and clean environment. The festival offers a variety of unique events to entertain visitors and the market sells quality apples at a low price.

Masan Gagopa Chrysanthemum Festival

Location: Masan Fishery Market (In front of Jangeo-geori) / Areas of Cheong-dong and Odong-dong

Date: 26th October-10th November

The Masan Gagopa chrysanthemum festival has been held since 2000 to promote the beautiful Masan chrysanthemums. Since the chrysanthemum farming in Changwon (Masan) began in 1960, it has flourished to account for 13 percent of the country’s chrysanthemum farming. Masan has the right requirements for cutting-edge technologies needed for soil, heat and chrysanthemum cultivation.
