The 8th Korean Film Festival in Australia (KOFFIA) will be kicking off on the 17th of August with its opening night in Sydney! This year’s festival will run through to the 23rd of September across 8 cities, including Hobart and Darwin where the festival will be held for the first time! This means that for the first time to festival will visit all 8 states of Australia and means Korean films are more accessible than ever before down under!
This year’s KOFFIA will showcase 30 movies over a huge variety of genres, including a retrospective of Jee-won Kim, one of Korea’s most influential directors. The sheer variety of the films on offer means there will be something for everyone.
The films this year also showcase some stunning tourist destinations in Korea. Worst Woman, an indie romance, takes us to some popular spots in Seoul such as Namsan Park and Ikseon-dong. The Map Against the World is a period piece which visits stunning locations like Songak Mountain in Jeju Island, and documentary Passage to Pusan follows a daughter retracing her mother’s journey to Busan to uncover their family legacy.
In order to celebrate the opening of this year’s festival, the Korea Tourism Organization Sydney Office has got our hands on 9 double passes to giveaway. These passes are valid for two people to any movie besides the opening and closing nights. The event will be held over the 3 weeks on the KTO Sydney Facebook page (Starting 31st July and ending 18th August) with 3 winners each week.
